Are you a developer or design professional that has planned and/or implemented a project in the greater Triangle that has done an outstanding job utilizing conservation principles? Do you believe that integrating environmental stewardship within your development makes good economic and environmental sense? If so, we encourage you to apply for recognition by the Greater Triangle Stewardship Development Awards (GTSDA) program!
The GTSDA program recognizes development projects that exceed expectations in protection of water quality, preservation of natural habitats and open space, use of green building techniques, enhancement of community fabric, and education of the public. Eligible projects can be residential, commercial/industrial, public/institutional, or mixed-use developments. (Individual single-family home sites are not eligible.) Projects must be located within Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Orange, or Wake counties.
Applications for these distinguished awards will be accepted until October 31, 2013. Application materials and more information are available online at: www.trianglestewardship.org.
Projects are evaluated on their overall creativity, design, and the avoidance of environmental impacts. Evaluation criteria include natural resource assessment, water quality protection, wildlife habitat protection, vegetation protection and enhancement, green building design, integration with the community, and community education and outreach.
Winners are chosen by a panel of impartial expert judges from the environmental and design fields. The five potential awards include Gold, Silver, Honorable Mention, Design Recognition, and Concept Recognition. Awards will be announced at a fourth annual banquet to be held in spring of 2014.
